Templates - The Foundation of a Page

Templates are the structural blueprint of a page.

When you create a new page in AEM, you start by selecting a template. That template determines:

  • The page layout
  • Which components are available
  • The structural rules of the page

Think of a template as the skeleton. It defines what kind of page you are building - for example:

  • Landing page: A focused page designed around a single goal, such as capturing leads or driving sign-ups.
  • Campaign page: A page that supports a broader marketing initiative, often combining multiple content sections and CTAs to tell a cohesive story.
  • Article page: A content-led page used to inform or educate, such as a blog post. It prioritises structured text and readability.
  • Product page: A page dedicated to showcasing a specific product or service, including key features, imagery, and a clear purchase action.

Templates ensure that similar page types follow consistent layout rules.

Authors cannot modify templates themselves - these are configured by development teams to ensure structure and governance.
